WEEK 3: LIVING BY THE WORD

Scripture Text: Matthew 4:1-11; Emphasis v4 - "But he answered and said, It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God."

You may have heard the word BIBLE as an acronym for Basic Instructions Before Leaving Earth. This may hold some truth, but I believe that God's complete intention is that His children will learn and live by His instructions while on the earth.
In our text, Jesus is lead by Holy Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted of the devil.  At each temptation Jesus gave a Word response.  Jesus knew very well Who He was and wasn't easily persuaded to yield to the lust of the flesh which in this case was extreme hunger.  Until the appointed time to break His fast Jesus stuck to the spiritual diet of feeding on His Father's Words.

As believers, our knowledge of God, wisdom from God, and strength in God is found in His Word.  God promised Joshua that by remaining steadfast to His Word, Joshua would experience good success (Joshua 1:8). The promise of Jesus to all His followers is if we abide in Him and let His awords abide in us, we can ask what we will and it shall be done unto us (John 15:7).   As the challenges of life come and we are tempted to choose the way of the flesh...our human reasoning (logic) to respond or react the words of Christ remains the same. We shall not live by bread alone. In other words, we shall not lean totally on the natural but as spiritual beings, we need spiritual food, the real soulfood to live and that is every word the preceeds from the mouth of God.

How does Kingdom citizens live?  "seek first the Kingdom of God and His righteousness and all these things shall be added unto you" (Matthew 6:33).
